Virtuoso Double-bassist and Composer
Renaud Garcia-Fons
Master Class 1/9, 1p at DSA
Concert 1/10, 7:30p at DUs Newman Center
“From the moment he held a double bass in his hands for the first time at age sixteen, Renaud Garcia-Fons saw possibilities to explore all the music that interested him — classical, jazz, Persian, Indian, Mediterranean, South and North American. Driven by new ideas and the talent to translate them into compositions, Garcia-Fons reinvented the way the double bass could be played. The result is an utterly new sound — an amalgam of double bass, cello, violin, guitar, lute and more — that exceeds any conventional idea of playing the double bass.
“For his solo concerts, he brings to the stage the repertoire recorded on the album, Solo — the Marcevol Concert, where he is accompanied only by sounds produced on his double bass; and for his quartet concerts, he offers the repertoire recorded on the album La Línea del Sur.”
